I have an Intel Core i5-7200U. Can I make this chip run hotter by using my CPU Fan Controller and putting a cooling fan on top of my laptop? Yes, this is common if you are gaming while plugged in. Your battery life won't get better, but the heat from your game will just spread out more evenly under the laptop. Thanks!

Check that link. For this old slow processor, it might be okay to try making it run faster if possible.

You need a good deal of patience when building a laptop because they are built with very strict measurements. That means the parts fit so tightly you cannot speed them up by forcing them to run hotter.

I'm already running cool, so I'll try different settings until things work right. If it gets too hot and slows down, I can lower the speed. But if everything stays smooth, I'll go up the clock speed. I also want to set a temperature limit... maybe around 75 degrees Celsius? I saw people trying to overheat their laptops and they actually succeeded, but I only want to get some extra power from my CPU.

Laptops usually have special software that lets you make chips go faster, but this is only for graphics cards, not the main processor inside your body. You can't really force speed up those parts from the startup menu settings.

But I can see lots of folks doing it too. Even if you just search Google there are many people using their CPU or GPU.

So what exactly are you planning on doing next? Honestly, it's pretty much impossible for most people because your CPU and motherboard settings lock everything down. You can't even change the core speed or base clock. Maybe some old laptops let you tweak that a little bit, but if you have a new one with an ultra-low-voltage processor in a BGA package, there won't be any chance of messing with those numbers at all.

"U" means ultra low energy use. The only reason to buy it is to save power. Some powerful CPUs are easy to make run faster, but cooling pads usually don't help much with laptops. I've tried three on my laptop and they didn't change anything at all.

There are people everywhere on Google turning up their CPUs and GPUs, though a big difference shows up only when you look at desktop computers.
