You're considering using your DQ77CP Intel motherboard with an I7 3770K processor. Check compatibility before purchasing.

I wouldn't put money into such a dated system unless it was truly essential.

I've switched my decision and am considering an i3 12100f. I'm curious about the best motherboard to pair with it and also looking into overclocking options.

You can't get a 12100. At that price, a Ryzen 4500 or 5600 would fit the budget and the boards would be more affordable. The CPUs are also superior for gaming because they aren’t the absolute lowest-end options in terms of threads. What’s your budget? Are you looking to buy an entire system or just upgrade something? If you have any components you’d like to repurpose, please list them along with their model numbers.

The limit is £200, and I didn’t grasp the rest of your message.

Checking your CPU, board, and RAM. Are you building a new PC or enhancing an existing one?

Just adding the board and CPU, I'm getting an upgrade.

I understand I'll have to increase the budget, mainly for the CPU and motherboard which are 200 each.

Alright well this is the best you can do for 200. Then get a 2x8gb kit of 3200mhz cl16 or 3600mhz cl18 ddr4 of your choice. Fyi the 4500 is on zen 2 and the 5500 is quite close in price but the 5500 has very little cache so even tho it's newer it's often slower than the 4500
