I'm looking to boost my memory capacity but after four years I'm struggling to get the same specs I had. I've seen a lot of 3200 MHz options, but I'm unsure if I can upgrade my existing 3000 MHz modules to match or if I should stick with them. My setup includes a Ryzen 7 1700 and a Prime B350 Plus from 2017.
You can adjust the memory speed in your BIOS settings to a range around 3000–3200 MHz with relaxed timings. When you click apply, the system tries to set all sticks to that frequency. However, your 3000 MHz chip likely won’t accept anything higher than 3000 MHz, so you’d need to keep the 3200 MHz chip at 3000 MHz. The difference in speed between these two is very small.
yeah I realized that after looking at benchmarks again, the difference is like within 3% maximum so there's no real point worrying about it I guess.
