I'm setting up the installation, which should take a few hours, but it looks like the CD with the game might actually be the music track too. I'm curious if I need this disc each time to start the game or if I can play it in my car instead.

If they truly reflect their DRM characteristics (though it's more of a similar concept), simply install them and keep the files permanently—no need to rely on the DVD.
