The fans should still operate properly even with a 3-pin hub instead of the required 4-pin setup.

Yes, the PWM signal isn't functioning properly. You'll need to adjust the fan speed using the traditional approach, which should still be effective.

The fourth pin serves as a control function. Additionally, the fan speed adjustment is now using direct current power.

Does it run on DC power, and will it stop increasing fan speed when your PC is under load? You might have to adjust it yourself.

3-pin fans employ another way to manage operation, rather than sending a digital command; the controller simply alters the fan's input voltage. This technique works with 4-pin fans too. Fan management remains automatic, provided the controller stays linked to the motherboard.

They use three fan pins that are regulated by voltage, the traditional method. Just ensure the board’s fan connector is switched to DC mode instead of PWM so you can control them.

looks like that is a DC hub anyway.. so it wouldn't make a difference. i've had combined hubs before, signal on any port except fan1 didn't matter as that's where it read the speed from. altho on this one i'm not sure it will read any rpm at all, just deliver the requested power.

A 4-pin fan header provides a pulse signal for turning the fan on or off quickly, while a 3-pin header lacks this control feature. In simple terms, 4-pin lets you adjust speed smoothly with a voltage regulator, but 3-pin runs at full speed without that adjustment. Some systems offer DC control for precise speed changes, reducing the voltage to lower speeds like 5V. The setup usually includes two connectors—one likely 4-pin and another for power supply.
