Hello! You're looking to replace your ISP's router with a new one, specifically considering the TP-Link AX73 as an upgrade from your Huawei EchoLife HG8121H. It’s a good idea to set up the ISP device as a modem and then connect the new router as the access point. Since you're not very familiar with networking, I recommend checking the ISP's documentation or contacting their support for guidance on configuring the modem-to-router setup. Let me know if you need more details!

You should be able to configure the ISP-provided modem/router to operate in bridge mode. This enables connecting your own equipment.

The HG8121H functions as an ONT and gateway unit. It provides access to your ISP’s fiber network along with a router, switch, and access point. Based on my observations, these ISP-supplied devices in home setups are hard to replace because 1) ONTs are tailored for the specific ISP network they connect to, and 2) few budget-friendly third-party options exist. If you aim to swap the ISP-provided ONT with your own equipment, you’ll need to contact the ISP directly. Explain your reasons and specify the replacement hardware so they can provide guidance on accessing their network. Such equipment tends to be premium quality, so costs will likely reflect that. Secondly, you might consider what @fuzz0r recommended, but I recommend consulting your ISP first to understand the correct procedure. From my experience with Hauwei ONTs, there isn’t a universal method to instantly enable bridge mode.
