In Linus' video, the sodimm ram didn't function when paired with regular dims. After removing the dimmers and using only the sodimm, it worked fine. I'm asking if this setup can be used with normal dims while paired with a laptop. I'm building a computer for a friend who wants to upgrade from an 8GB DDR4 laptop. Should I try using regular DDR4 RAM and the sodimm adapter together? Thanks for your help!
It's hard to say for sure. Just get an 8GB DDR4, it doesn't offer much savings over the adapter.
Start by recognizing that each adapter adds another potential failure point. Second, Sodimm tends to be slower than standard memory, may use different voltages, and generally something like this would demand a lot of adjustments to function properly. Even then, I doubt it would ever be truly reliable. I’m not sure it’s worth the trouble.
