I don’t understand anything except what you’re trying to discover. PCIe lanes weren’t crucial for years, yet now people are panicking about them. They’re still in use but don’t affect the experience of 99.99% of users at all.

Check the number of PCIe and NVMe ports on your board. That defines your main constraint. Also refer to the user manual. If certain ports are restricted or incompatible, that’s the key issue. Otherwise, you should be able to connect any card regardless of slot type. What concern do you have?

The software may seem intriguing, but it’s not the main concern. It’s something you can easily determine by looking at the motherboard manual regarding lane assignments, and once the system is installed, it’s too late to make changes. This issue should be addressed before choosing a motherboard, not after it’s built.
