Hi Everyone, I've been using my Windows 10 PC with a local user account because the login process keeps getting frustrating. Now that Xbox offers a 'play anywhere' feature, I'm trying to connect my Microsoft account to my PC. Can I bypass the login password screen? I understand setting a PIN works, but it doesn’t suit me since I often leave my PC on and come back later. I found a link that claims to skip the login, but it seems to only work with local users. Is there another way? Should I still use a local user while keeping the Xbox app logged in with my Microsoft account? Thanks for your help.

It must be used with a Windows Live account, but you can assign it a 4-digit pin in the password settings.

You must detach your Windows Live login and employ a local account configured without a password.

I have, sort-of done that. But I have no clue how I did it in the first place. Also I'm not a 100% sure if I actually did it with my microsoft account. Seeing that a new PC just copied all my personal stuff (BG, theme coloring etc) I would say it is. The basic idea behind it is you still manually login to the system using a password. You just automate the typing of the password. I've done this back when win 10 stable release came out so i'm quite fuzzy on the details. I think I used cmd to make a command that will login automatically. Do note that this does not work when the computer comes out of sleepmode, only from restart.

Unclear why people claim it doesn't work when it actually does. Follow the instructions carefully and ensure the logged-in user is an administrator. If the account is in the "HomeUser" group, it won't function. The issue might be resolved with a better tutorial here: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3539-...artup.html

I'm sure the previous attempt to delete the password for a Windows Live account required a local account. I'll double-check.

Interesting, it functions on both my wife's laptop and my HTPC (both connected to live accounts)

Current version of Windows 10 is indicated post-anniversary update. The feature has disappeared.

The checkbox remains visible, but enabling password-free sign-in triggers a pop-up requesting account information for automatic login. The interface appears to restrict this option to local accounts only. In the settings app, there’s no "remove password" choice unless you’re using a local account. It seems there might be an oversight in the configuration.

I don’t have Windows 10 at work; I’ll need to look at home.
