Hello, I'm setting up a PC for editing. I plan to use one hard drive for Windows and another for Hackintosh. I can purchase an i9 9900k + Z390 Aorus Pro Wi-Fi or a Ryzen 3700X with an ASUS X570 TUF Plus. You're wondering which GPU suits me better—RX 5700X or RTX 2060? I have these components ready: Dark Rock Pro 4, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2x8 GB), ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB M.2 NVMe, Seasonic FOCUS 750 Gold, and a MasterBox MB520 RGB. I also have a Western Digital My Book 6 TB external drive.

3000 models function well on macOS, but problems arise with board compatibility. Caution is advised when installing macOS on AMD systems—it demands more complex procedures and terminal actions compared to Intel platforms. Nvidia 2000 series are completely incompatible, likely never will be. RX5000 series are only available in Catalina 15.1 Beta; developers must use Beta builds, and official support ends with the public release of that version.

Appreciate the update, I see you're running a Ryzen 7 3800X. How's everything going? Is the temperature and stability looking good?

Thanks in advance. I saw your Ryzen 7 3800X, how’s everything going? What’s the temperature and stability like with it?

I'm unable to operate macOS at the moment due to unsupported hardware.

It fits perfectly with my 1440p display, operates quietly, stays cool, and handles everything I use. I switched from an Asus Vega 64 that had known VRM problems and overheated above 100°C, making this upgrade a real game-changer. The only minor drawback is the outdated drivers—only working smoothly with Catalyst 19.10 for WCG and HDR. With time, things should get better. Rumors suggest Microsoft DXR support will arrive in the late 2020s, which would be a big win. This feels like a completely free upgrade since I bought the card expecting no Ray Tracing. Edit—your CPU is awesome too! AGESA ABBA is running at 4.4Ghz with solid boosts, and my 115i Platinum stays under 80°C even at max settings. It’s ideal for gaming and light video editing, which are three of my top priorities (the last one is electronic DJing—definitely possible on a basic rig).

You're asking about the relevance of light video editing as one of your three primary uses, and whether it's sufficient for your needs. It also relates to your question about buying an I9-9900K GPU. Let me clarify:

- Light video editing is a skill you can develop, but it may not be enough on its own for professional work.
- The I9-9900K is a powerful graphics card, ideal for gaming and content creation, but it depends on your specific goals.
- Consider combining both skills with the right tools and practice for better results.

It's okay for minor tweaks. If your main goal is editing videos—especially when time is tight—opt for something with strong performance. For occasional projects, a Ryzen works fine. The difference between a 3800X and a 9900K in video work isn’t significant.
