You're right, upgrading from Windows 8.1 to 10 was a couple of months ago. The older hardware might still be in good shape. What are your thoughts on it?

Windows lacks a real-time setup, perhaps you're only interested in checking if your system starts? Try booting from a Linux distribution for testing.

Just test it out and see how it goes. Windows can sometimes handle the switch from laptop to desktop, but there are times it fails. You can't be certain when moving between devices. The worst scenario is a blue screen during startup.
