Yes, Xeon X5660 and X58 motherboards support standard RAM without ECC.
You can definitely use your existing RAM sticks.
Nehalems aren't great, mostly. Westmeres and a few Gulftown guys are way better.
Westmere-EP/Gulftown was part of that memory stick. Clarkdale seems to function properly with it.
