Have you encountered this before? I was using Chrome and noticed it for the first time. I thought Windows would generate small prompts for their apps, but to create an ad promoting another product? I could grasp if someone was getting Windows 10 for free, but not on a paid operating system.

The menu manages the display settings for notifications. Most features are turned off.

When Cortana or Edge isn't turned off, you'll continue to see them. The drawback is that disabling Cortana in the latest anniversary update also turns off desktop search.

I successfully resolved the problem but I’m unsure how. I really hope Microsoft stops adding unnecessary applications. I enabled background apps since it’s meant to solve my issue with the start menu not recognizing installed programs, yet after rebooting, the same bloatware reappears.

Alternatively, adjust the settings in the window options... It's astonishing how many people switch to a new OS or software without checking the controls. Really, it seems like it should only take a short time to read through the adjustments and disable features you don't need. Doing so might even be quicker than posting complaints online.

I’d like to try anyway because Cortana doesn’t seem to sync well with Canadian configurations (those Americans are so annoying). But since the start menu no longer uses folders, it’s simpler to browse the cluster instead.

Another issue with Cortana is that removing it often requires significant changes. Simply disabling it in the task manager will reset it, and deleting its associated files can cause problems because Windows needs them to function properly.

This works well for most Windows 10 tasks, but turning Cortana off is simpler than you might think. The quickest method is to rename the folder where she stores her data, which prevents Windows from loading her or running even when other apps are using it. This is why Cortana and Windows search results are combined into one. I still disabled her because I don’t need her or the search features.

I originally disabled most of it, but it probably activated after a patch or restart. Thanks!
