At the end of this month I plan to replace the motherboard and CPU, which means upgrading Windows. I have two disks: one for my operating system and another for my games. My concern is whether reinstalling Windows and reformatting the OS disk while leaving the other untouched will retain all files when switching to a new Windows version. Would I need to format both disks?
It should work simply by including the shortcuts in your start menu.
It should work well, I have roughly 10 HDs available, keeping music, movies, games, drivers, and photos on different drives. No problems ever occurred after reinstalling Windows.
Uninstalled items continue functioning (such as video files, images, and music). Installed items may not work (like games and programs). Often, installing a program adds entries to the registry and connects to files on your C drive. After formatting C:, these registry changes and the associated files will differ.
