I'm trying to find the cheapest parts without buying a used CPU, but I'm worried about damage during shipping. Updated Jan 30, 2021 by kucharczykt – not too clever with this stuff.
When it comes to LGA, chances are low. For PGA, the likelihood is high.
LGA refers to connectors on the motherboard (Intel began with LGA775; AMD adopted it for servers), while PGA means connectors on the CPU (used before LGA775, then continued by AMD except for servers).
You're purchasing from a seller on eBay, which is acceptable. The platform offers strong buyer and seller protection, allowing returns for any reason. Chips like AMD or PGA are more common due to their pin fragility, whereas Intel or LGA options are less frequent. Keep thorough documentation to ensure a smooth return process if needed.
I got an i7 6700k on ebay like 6 months ago, works fine and it was packed horribly. if it works it works ussuly there's not much of an in-between, unless it was heavily overlocked a lot then it might not clock as high as it used to. only ever received one bad cpu(offer-up) and got my money back.
