If that is the case, will the problem mentioned by @GhostRoadieBL occur when RAM usage surpasses 8 GB?

I've never come across this problem before. When I faced similar size issues, it functioned exactly as expected. You can locate the solution for your specific situation in the motherboard's documentation. In the RAM setup area, it explains how various RAM modules interact and specifies the correct placement.

My older x58 setup would lead to numerous issues with various stick sizes, possibly due to an old triple channel design they addressed by switching to a newer dual channel setup.

Looks like your setup is still working fine with the current updates. Once you reach the 8GB limit, performance will drop to single-channel mode after that. Normal daily use shouldn't cause issues, but tasks like gaming or heavy editing will slow down to single-stick speed—something you already have.

I understand the situation. The manual specifies matching DDR4 DIMM pairs for dual-channel performance. It seems I might have to discard the 16 GB stick since returning it isn’t an option anymore.

They said it differently, but the point is clear.
