Hello everyone, I just upgraded my PC from an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X to a Ryzen 7 75800X3D. Everything seems to be working fine, but I performed a clean installation of Windows 11. Unfortunately, the activation process is failing again, and Microsoft is demanding another $200 to activate Windows 11. Since I don’t have a paid activation key for Windows 11 (as it was an upgrade from Windows 10), I’m hesitant to pay. I have a paid activation code for Windows 10, so I’m considering removing the current Windows 11 install and reinstalling Windows 10 fresh. Then I could upgrade to Windows 11 without paying the activation fee. What do you think? Would it be possible to switch from Windows 10 to Windows 11 using my existing paid code? Thanks for your time and feedback.

Windows 10 keys can help unlock Windows 11, simply perform a new installation of 11 and apply the 10 code you already have.

I already had Windows 11 installed before. The last time I tried to install Windows 10 code it failed. When I did that, the Windows 11 setup was already a week old. I plan to run a clean installation of Windows 11 tomorrow morning and test the Windows 10 code then. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll update you on the outcome. Take care and good luck.

If it doesn’t work, you can definitely install Windows 10 and license it with your code. Then proceed to update to version 11, rather than spending 200. I’d just switch back from the backup to your old OS. There was no real need to reinstall the OS for the upgrade. You can transfer drives between very different PCs and it functions fine, even switching between AMD and Intel.

If it doesn’t work, you can definitely install Windows 10 and get it licensed using your code, then proceed to update to version 11. That’s my approach for the morning. I’m in California, and it’s currently just a quarter past 10 PM. Take care.

If it fails once more, attempt contacting them using your code. I’m not certain the service is still active, but it makes sense to try again with your code in hand. At least a win of 10 should display the correct activation number via phone.

Check the available troubleshooting options for when the activation code fails. Your setup is for a single machine, so ensure it was deactivated before reactivation. Microsoft now assumes you're using it across two or more systems. Updated March 9, 2024 by leclod

Thanks for your assistance. I couldn't sleep last night due to everything going wrong, so I had to perform a full fresh install of Windows 10 with my code and then update to Windows 11. Everything worked out fine, though I lost a night of sleep in the process. Appreciate your help again—have a good night and luck with your work!
