Hey there! Welcome around. I'm just getting started with streaming and enjoy playing games like COD, Division 2, Overwatch, and a few more. My PC is running the games smoothly, but I'm curious if it can handle streaming too. The specs are a Ryzen 5 1500X, 16GB DDR4, M.2 980TI, MSI 980 Ti. Thanks for checking!

Streaming won't be feasible. You might be able to encode the stream using your GPU, but the results will likely be limited. Give it a try and check for any significant slowdowns.

It's a decent option with four cores and eight threads. It may not be the best setup, but it can still work. Give it a try!

those titles he mentioned can become quite challenging, particularly when streaming on the same hardware.

Thank you all for your responses. I'll try again—if it doesn't work, I'll upgrade to a third-gen Ryzen. Appreciate your support!

Use your GPU for smooth playback. Your Ryzen 5 is a mid-range chip with eight threads, likely not the fastest RAM speed. This processor may struggle in certain games even without streaming because it can handle more than four cores. You might want to test it out and observe performance. If you plan to upgrade, a Ryzen 7 2700(x) can be affordable sometimes. I purchased one for 145€ on Black Friday, while the 3700X was 315€ and the 6-core 5GHz model cost between 190-200€. For better streaming results, go for an 8-core processor over a 6-core one.

There are two types of responses so far. Some claim you can't succeed while others believe you can, though there may be challenges. I lean toward the latter. The main points are: what FPS and settings do you have in the games, and your streaming goals? You definitely can stream at 720p30, possibly higher. Your internet upload speed will also play a big role. Your CPU is solid for encoding—any processor with four or more cores works well. You can also leverage your GPU for encoding as well. If your CPU is already running near 80% usage, consider switching to the GPU.

Tell me your budget, the display resolution you're targeting, and your preferred FPS. You might find a better setup for both gaming and streaming.
