They keep urging me to upgrade with a gaming keyboard, mouse, and 144Hz monitor for better performance in games like Battlefield, CS:GO, and H1ZONE. I usually stick with the standard keys and mouse that come with most computers from Asus, using a regular 60Hz TV screen since I don’t need anything special and want to save money. They keep saying things like “Your delays make you lose a lot!” and claim gaming gear will improve my chances. I’m here to check if they’re right.

Confirm definitely yes. Mouse isn't really working. Use the keyboard and hit your friend over the head with it.

Yes, as long as you can apply them effectively. In sports, improving your skills matters more than equipment. If your technique is weak, even the best racket won’t help much. I know people who can beat me easily with a simple controller. Giving them an Xbox Elite would really reduce our chances.

They contribute, yet they won’t instantly change you into an expert. If your equipment was really limiting you, you’d feel that impact.

It really comes down to the level you're aiming for. For some, their current rig is perfect. For others—especially those who play hardcore or are highly skilled—it could be a real setback. Switching from a TV to a 144Hz monitor would make a big difference. A better mouse with smoother tracking and higher poll rates would help too. Mechanical keyboards feel great, and switches with shorter travel distances can improve reaction times. While these upgrades matter, most people don’t see them as crucial in this context. Personally, mechanical keyboards just feel more satisfying.

Keyboard - not really. I mostly use shooters with the membrane on my laptop keyboard and sometimes the mechanical one (MX blues) on my desktop. No noticeable difference. Mouse - no. I just have a gaming mouse since I rely on macros for work and to assign actions like melee or grenades to my thumb. Regular mice can work if they have extra buttons. Monitor - depends. I tend to go for one with minimal input lag, which helps a lot when playing fighting games. Some people prefer high refresh rate monitors to reduce ghosting, but I don’t have a high-end setup with high FPS yet.

Alright, thank you everyone! I may get a mouse as people seem to be recommending it! Though I did check this out and it seems quite nice: https://shop.tesorotec.com/collections/m...3885834310 May get that and maybe a monitor in the future if I ever really need it.

A 144Hz display won’t transform your performance significantly; you might notice a slight improvement, but that’s about it. It does look good. A more accurate mouse can really help, but only if your skills are strong and you switch from a very slow wireless with high lag to something like the EC1-A. For keyboards, just pick what feels comfortable in your hand. Honestly, it’s important to choose something that feels right. Upgrading won’t turn you into a pro, and even with top gear, you might still struggle.

I’m not aiming for professional success; I just want to know if it’s a good idea given what others say.
