I've seen several applications in my event viewer displaying the error code 0xc0000005. This issue occasionally affects games like Witcher 3 and Dying Light 2, causing them to crash. Here are the relevant logs:

- Application name: witcher3.exe, version 4.0.1.37654
- Time stamp: 0x00000000
- Faulting module: witcher3.exe, version 4.0.1.37654
- Exception code: 0xc0000005
- Fault offset: 0x0000000001f1f4ea
- Process ID: 0x0x47B8
- Start time: 0x1DAE85A1F8DDC34

- Report ID: 42c027b5-def6-49ea-970d-720ebd32afdb

Another game, Dying Light 2, also shows this error:
- Version: 1.17.2.0
- Time stamp: 0x668672c0
- Faulting module: nvwgf2umx.dll, version 32.0.15.5612

These crashes seem to be rare but occur mostly with DX12 titles.

Have all malicious programs installed? Are you using the Asus Armory Crate? If yes, turn it off in BIOS and then use the uninstall tool provided by Asus: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/armoury crate/helpdesk_download/. Verify fast boot is turned off in both BIOS and Windows. If it's enabled (or you prefer it disabled), also disable it in Windows, ensuring the settings match across BIOS and Windows. Confirm your 980 Pro is running the most recent firmware. Make sure your RAM is using the standard Expo profile, not an Asus-optimized one. You may also try setting it to auto or manually adjust the frequency, timings, and DRAM voltage while disabling Expo.

My armoury crate is turned off, I'm updating the SSD firmware too. I'm using docp but profile 2 instead of 1, even though they look identical. I'm planning to disable it and adjust my memory frequency manually. I also ran an OCCT test lasting one hour at 100% VRAM to check all 24GB on the 4090, and everything worked fine without any errors. The crashes are infrequent but still raise questions about performance, especially with such a high-end setup.

After 37 minutes, the system detected numerous memory issues on my VRAM. It seems strange and odd, especially since my GPU driver stopped working and I had to restart the PC. The device manager reported it as non-functional, which led me to replace the 4090 RAM about six months ago. It’s confusing—could another factor be causing these memory errors? Things like the 16-pin cable or power supply might be involved. Also, I’m running a full memory test at 100% usage, which is the default setting.

Did you verify the quick startup feature? Both my 7900XT and yours were experiencing the same issue. Unplugging and restarting the driver. Verify fast boot in BIOS (fast startup in Windows) – ensure it matches settings in both systems and is turned on.

The disconnection issue occurred during a memory stress test, resulting in numerous errors. I'm reviewing it now but will run the test again to check for further problems. Besides a slow startup, are there other factors that might affect VRAM performance? I'm just confirming the GPU is functioning correctly.

Check the VRAM and other hardware issues first. Try the quick startup test before proceeding. Consider reinstalling GPU drivers just in case. Download DDU, run it in safe mode (you'll be asked when it starts). In DDU settings, disable driver updates during installation. Return to the original steps and run a clean install. After confirming the fast boot works, perform your test.

I ran the test without making any changes and it functioned perfectly, though I’m confused about how it works. I’ll try the fast boot next and do the test again.

it seems windows detected a memory issue and disconnected the GPU, which led to errors. during my test, no background apps were running. i’ll try again with background applications and check if the problem persists. i believe the memory is okay.
