Searching for an affordable mITX AM4 board under 175 CAD, budget-friendly around 250 CAD. Avoid overclocking. Needs USB-C and Wi-Fi connections, but those aren’t essential. Must include at least one 4-pin RGB header and one 3-pin ARGB header. Color preference is neutral—excluding green and red options.

The Asrock B550M-ITX/AC is an alternative choice for the 205 model. You probably won’t find a front panel USB-C header under 250 CAD; it might lack strong power delivery. Moving to x470 mini ITX would likely worsen low-end power performance and eliminate the USB-C header. Some solid options from the prior generation are left for others to promote, but I personally purchased the Asus Strix B550-I to secure the header.

USB-C offers a premium choice. Consider a budget board and an expansion card instead. The main issue is that adding another card can halve your PCIe lanes. This isn’t a big deal for the X570 or B550, but it becomes relevant with the B450, especially if you’re also planning large video cards. A 2080Ti only slightly uses 8 PCIe lanes. Anything weaker won’t make a difference.

They're examining a small ITX board, which limits choices to an expansion card.

This board supports a 12/16-core configuration smoothly. It includes Wi-Fi AC and two 4-pin RGB lights, but lacks 3-pin RGB and a Type-C port. The VRM heatsink is described as somewhat basic.

It’s the only approach I’ve considered that could work within budget constraints. Likely the best choice is going with the b550 itx model. It might be worth checking out some non-WiFi boards that also offer a Wi-Fi version, possibly with an e-key slot on top for Wi-Fi—this slot isn’t usually filled. Another possibility is using multiple NVMe slots and pairing an M-key Wi-Fi card with a 3.0 port, though you’d need to factor in the card cost. The overall total could end up being higher.

The MSI B550i is likely the best value for your budget. I’m leaning toward the Strix B550i, though it might be pricier in Canada.
