I came here wondering if I should ask the same thing again, even though I’ve used GIMP from time to time. My concern was whether it’s better to use GIMP or an unofficial Photoshop copy without spending money. From this discussion, it seems I’ll keep using GIMP more often, since it works well for my needs. While I can’t say for sure, I know GIMP feels smoother on Windows, and I’ve gotten frustrated with Photoshop in the past. I just need to figure out what’s best without breaking the bank.
The main issue I faced with GIMP was the creation of several windows. This problem was resolved in version 2.8 when enabling Window -> Single-Window Mode, making it behave more like Photoshop.
