Hi, I'm interested in city simulation games beyond Sim City, Anno, Settlers Series, Tropico and City Skyline. Are there any other non-combat titles available? Thanks, Chiyawa

There are various titles such as Theme Park Manager that feature detailed management systems. Some railway simulation games share a similar approach, involving purchasing land, constructing tracks, competing for freight, and expanding your network. While not strictly city-building simulations, they share many core mechanics. What interests you is a game that lets you develop a settlement from ancient times through modern eras, offering numerous building options, management tasks, research opportunities, and expansion possibilities. If you enjoy the intricacies of management games, this could be a great fit—though I’m not certain about the latest release.

Yeah, I played Sim Theme Park before from BullFrog back in PS1 days. Not bad, I should say. I'll check out Theme Park Manager and see. I'm not sure, but I tried the A-Train back in SNES. Not really to my liking. I wonder if the newer one are better. I played Civ games (Civ V, Beyond Earth, Alpha Centauri, Civ SNES). I'm not very fond because there's war involved and it is a turn base game. I have to crank the difficulty down so no one attacks me and leave me alone to build my empire. Still, not a bad game (but wished that they just don't stop after 500 turns, especially SNES one). I do play Civ City Rome. Well, not the best city simulation game, but it's okay. They try to 'enhanced' an old game called 'Zeus Master of Olympus', but I felt they lack a bit over there (their mechanics are a bit unpolished), and of course, the Gods and Goddesses walking around the city. Zeus game are quite well polished at its time. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. I'll certainly give your suggestion a look.

Cities Skylines stands apart as the sole genuine city-building experience available. Other games merely blend various concepts together.

Consensus reached. Would appreciate seeing additional developers create more of these types of games.

Consider exploring the city concept with a Mars survival twist. Besides that, you could dive into the Tycoon lineup. Factorio, Prison Architect, RimWorld, Mindustry might also appeal. Satisfactory Frostpunk could be a good fit too. Oxygen not Included Tropico is another option to think about.

Expelled. More akin to a town simulator though I really enjoy it. Ostriv. Similar to Banished but with much better graphics, though it's still in early access and has limited content.

I tried Fairy Godmother Tycoon by Pogo, but it felt more like a store management game. I also played Roller Coaster Tycoon on PS2, which mainly involves constructing a roller coaster. Mindstorm was a bit mixed for me; I usually prefer sandbox games, but this one had elements of Tower Defence or Base Battle Arena with resource management and building. Factorio seems promising, similar to Mindstorm but with more varied activities instead of just building and fighting. I haven’t played Satisfactory, RimWorld, Frostpunk or Oxygen: No Included yet. I’ll give it a try.
