Hello community, I'm checking if the Samsung Evo 970 Plus with a 2TB drive works well with the Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2 and your Ryzen 5 3600 and RX 6600. The site says it supports an M.2 connector for SATA and PCIe SSDs, but it mentions compatibility depends on the CPU model. They specify support for certain SSD types only with specific processors. Please let me know if you need more details!

It's possible but it should handle the 970.

Yes, you can utilize a Samsung 990 Pro NVMe M.2 SSD at full speed if your mainboard supports it. Check if your board includes PCIe 4.0 for optimal performance.

Sorry I missed the notification. It should function, but I wouldn't invest that much in an SSD (though it's possible).

Threads combined. The manual indicates the B450M ds3h V2 is compatible with PCIe 3.0 x4 for the M.2 port. However, this could vary based on the CPU selected, as B450 series boards support CPUs that only work with PCIe 3.0 (like Ryzen 1000, Ryzen 2000) or those that support PCIe 4.0 (Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 5000). Since it mentions PCIe 3.0, it suggests the slot uses lanes from the chipset in PCIe 3.0 mode. The Samsung 990 Pro is a PCIe 4.0 device. Given the M.2 slot only supports PCIe 3.0, the drive will operate in that mode, limiting its speed to PCIe 3.0 capabilities. In practice, a PCIe 4.0 drive in PCIe 3.0 won’t be noticeably slower than a standard PCIe 3.0 drive. If you prefer a cheaper option without performance loss, opting for a different PCIe 3.0 drive might be sensible. If cost isn’t an issue, the compatibility remains the same regardless of speed. PCIe standards work backward and forward, so a PCIe 4.0 unit in a PCIe 3.0 slot won’t match the performance of a PCIe 4.0 unit in a PCIe 4.0 slot.

Thanks! If the price gap is small, purchasing a PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD could be wise since you might upgrade to a PCIe 4.0 motherboard eventually.
