It works well enough, mainly for the higher-end models. Look at some YouTube reviews.

A top choice would be a 3700x. If you don’t need much, the 3600/x 3700x will definitely help you pass the crossgen era and smoothly move into Nextgen Games. Productivity reaches its peak.

For gaming purposes, Intel will boost your FPS. However, the improvement isn't substantial, and it's unlikely most players could notice the difference in FPS gains. Overall, the 3700x is a powerful CPU, especially suited for applications with heavy multithreading. Right now, games often focus more on cores than resolution, which gives Intel an edge. Still, it remains an excellent chip. What game resolution are you targeting, and which GPU are you considering?

You're probably thinking about pairing it with a more powerful GPU. A 3600 would be a solid upgrade if you want to maximize performance.

I intend to utilize a 2080 Super and a 1920x1080 display.

I could upgrade to 1440p using that GPU, or opt for a 5700XT at 1080p instead.

For 144hz it's best to go with the 10600k, it's more affordable and performs better in games. At 240hz, stick with the 10600k unless you're playing CSGO, then upgrade to the 3700x. The 3600 is only worth it if you need to save that final $100. For budget builds, the Z490 Prime-P works well with the 10600k B550 Tomahawk, while the Edge or Carbon options suit the 3700x.

Sure, I unlocked a small bump to 5GHz and it's running smoothly for gaming. The price came down to $295 and 3700X is now $289 versus $16 threads. The 8700K is $350—what? Hmm, thread count or something else?
