Hello! Your recent Reddit post about upgrading from a Ryzen 5 1400 to a Ryzen 5 3600 got some interesting feedback. The community suggests going with the 3600, but your HP Omen 880-020 motherboard only supports certain Ryzen models and chipset versions. After checking the support page, it seems the 3600 might not be compatible unless a BIOS update is released for your specific model. Some users believe the chances of getting official support are low, and swapping in a new motherboard could introduce other issues. You’re right to consider your budget—around $300 for the upgrade—but you might want to explore alternatives if you decide to move forward. Looking into compatible models for your case could help too. Let me know if you’d like more details!

If the PC doesn't list support for the CPU, it's not supported officially. That means HP never released a BIOS update to add more CPUs. It's a big problem with most OEM PCs.

The situation sounds manageable. Your budget of around $400–$500 should cover the necessary components, and a compatible Mobo with the same form factor should work fine. Regarding the Windows license, changing the prebuilt MMO won’t affect it as long as the hardware meets requirements. Just double-check your build to ensure everything aligns.

Checked the linked product, it’s a typical micro ATX model without custom power connectors, making it compatible with options like the one from VyBhP6 or the MSI B450M Pro VDH Max. If you need to run your current CPU and later upgrade to the 3600, consider the alternative board here. OEM keys are linked to the motherboard, but there are methods to bypass this using a Microsoft account. While not ideal, you can find licenses on eBay for a small fee.
