I've been trying to improve my PC for a while now, but I'm not the most knowledgeable about compatibility issues. I was planning to purchase a used RTX 2070, but with the launch of the new RTX 30 series, I decided to go with the RTX 3070 instead. I was curious whether it would work with my current motherboard and if my CPU would handle it well—since I'm also upgrading my PSU to a 700W unit. My specs are listed in the details I included.
Yes, 3.0 x16 should provide sufficient bandwidth for a 3080. The 8600k remains a solid gaming chip, especially when overclocked. It's still a decent option, particularly on B series boards. At higher resolutions it shouldn't be an issue. Power consumption, manufacturer, and efficiency don't determine quality. What model exactly are you referring to? are you sure the graphics card runs at 1080p? the RTX 3070 could slow things down a lot, especially without any optimization. if I were you, I’d hold off until AMD releases RDNA2 and check what they bring. the RTX 3070 is around 2080i, though we’re not sure yet—probably close to that. the main issue won’t be huge, but think about using an older CPU like the 8700 for comparison.
Approximately €100? Uncertain if this fits your budget and whether the lower back area of the case is acceptable.
your pc seems fairly balanced at the moment. however, adding an rtx 3000 or even the potential rtx 3060 could cause a bottleneck. switching from your 1060 to a rtx 3070 might improve performance, but since your cpu is still limiting things, you won’t see a huge boost—just a noticeable difference, not a complete overhaul.
