Checking the price for the MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 board, I wonder if spending $175 is necessary or if a more affordable option exists. Looking for an ATX AM5 board with heatsink and Wi-Fi, I’m open to sleek black, silver, or grey alternatives.

I noticed your comment earlier about the 175 board being the most affordable ATX B650 model with Wi-Fi. It’s a bit surprising since it’s quite pricey. You might consider going for the A620 chipset or opting for B650 MAX boards, which typically offer Wi-Fi at around $130. Depending on your CPU choice and whether you plan to overclock, the performance gap between A620 and B650 MAX will be minimal to almost nonexistent. You could also cut costs on components like power supply, keyboard, and monitor.

Cheap options for AM5 motherboards are available, but you may miss some features or M.2 slots. Most VRM connections should still function, though if you opt for the lowest price, be aware that the only drawback is skimping on the motherboard quality. Unless you're purchasing a top-tier CPU, a budget-friendly AM5 board works fine—just ensure it meets at least the B650 or A620 specs with a heatsink. Inexpensive boards without heatsinks might not handle sustained loads well, causing VRMs to overheat and slow down the CPU. High-quality VRMs can extend system lifespan, so avoid going too cheap.

If your budget allows, I always pick the top components. For you, it depends on whether you prefer a more powerful CPU or GPU. I’d choose the best specs every time. You’ll likely struggle to run that 260Hz display with a 7700XT at 1440p unless you’re playing esports games. Consider upgrading to a higher-end GPU or opt for a 165Hz screen, which would free up $100-150 for other parts like the graphics card.

PCPartPicker List
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core ($358.14 @ Amazon)

Storage: TEAMGROUP T-Force Cardea A440 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 ($105.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: PowerColor Hellhound OC Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB ($529.99 @ Amazon)

Just to clarify, the original request mentioned needing Wi-Fi and a compatible device. Also, there was a note about potential deals or bundles that could work well depending on the situation. If the setup isn't ideal right now, it might be worth checking for better options or packages.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll lower the monitor and PSU, keeping the motherboard as is. @kitnoman what GPU would work well? It needs to be compact or around 27 inches with quick response time (under 1ms). If you can, please suggest a solid option that won’t overheat your PC or home.

When using MSI, remember that boot times may be longer—around 45 to 60 seconds—based on your RAM settings. They also report stability problems with RAM speed. If you plan to purchase this motherboard, make sure to choose RAM from the MSI MOBO vendor list.

It does have faster boot times according to Hardware Unboxed Videos on youtube. They have a video with multiple mobos and also listed all boot times in comparison. The thing you need to factor in with Gigabyte AM5 boards, is a very big chance on having a mobo with coil whine, which I would personally not pick. If I have the choice between slow boot times or coil whine I would take slow boot times any day.
