I’ve been using this motherboard for nearly a year and can finally upgrade it from an 1650 Super to an RTX 2060 at a good price. I also plan to switch from my 10th gen i3 to an i5 to avoid bottlenecks with the new GPU. Will this board provide enough power for the i5? I’ve seen some YouTubers like randomgaminginhd upgrade with an 11th gen i5 on a H510 board, but I’m a bit worried about power delivery. Should I consider replacing the board or is this setup safe? Beyond moderately demanding titles, the i3 should perform adequately. I’d test it for a while to check if you reach near 95% GPU utilization before considering a CPU upgrade. The only titles that gain from it are those designed for multi-core usage, which is limited. Personally, if I upgraded, I’d sell the board and CPU to purchase an i3 12100F and H610 instead. Regarding the VRM, it’s quite weak, but the i5 10400 consumes minimal power, so it should be fine. If you’re worried, you can purchase affordable heatsinks on Ali Express and apply thermal epoxy to the VRM to maintain cooling (VRM temperatures are the key concern).
I still find this concept appealing, though my usual game is BF2042. It constantly drains my CPU, and even at low settings I’m stuck around 40 frames per second while the GPU stays only at 75% usage most of the time. I’m upgrading to the 2060 because I want to dive back into teardown and other titles that struggle with my GPU.
Still suggest using 12100F. Multi-core speed remains similar, but the single-thread performance is significantly better. In most games it should be the faster CPU, and the price should be comparable to 10400F based on recent pricing.
