Hello, I'm experiencing an unusual problem with my CPU from the start. The temperature sensor appears faulty, causing the CPU temp to fluctuate wildly—from 30 to 40 degrees in just a few minutes when idle. Now, at idle it shows a range of 30 to 50 degrees with water cooling active. Should I perform a BIOS reset to fix this? My model is a Ryzen 7 3700X.

It's typical for a game to change speed from 30 to 70 in just a few seconds. Unless the same performance is reported when under load, it shouldn't be a big concern. You might also consider resetting the CMOS, though that seems unlikely to help.

It's still working well. The readings look normal, and the temperatures are stable. Reducing the size of the core die makes it tougher to manage sudden spikes.

Even simple operations can lead to huge power fluctuations inside a core, resulting in temperatures rising quicker than even the top coolers manage. The further a CPU is from the surrounding environment, the more energy is needed to raise its temperature, which means greater swings when it’s close to ambient conditions. That’s why CPUs with light workloads tend to move around a lot, experiencing big power spikes while the average stays near normal levels.
