Looking for fresh Sandy Bridge processors for a workstation project. I need options from 2 to 8 cores, but I'm unsure which gives the best performance beyond 4 cores. This is for converting my media collection to digital and handling general tasks. Ghz remains a strong benchmark here?

It seems a 2700K (Sandy Bridge) configuration offers four cores with eight threads, likely fitting the board you have.

How is this done? CDs and DVDs are digital already. Are you simply copying files to storage or re-encoding them? Encoding usually prefers core formats.
