Seems like the screenshot vanished. Not too bad. The good news is I thought my game never synced properly, but it did work—my cars and stuff are all there! Woo! Just ran a lap for some fun, and it's been a while. Only got 8:22 and change. The best run was with the Zonda R at 6:34 and change.
Need for speed shift 2 falls short as a racing game, significantly worse than burnout; that’s quite a comment. The handling physics are terrible and completely off, with noticeable input lag across most controller setups (including the wired 360 gamepad and premium racing wheels). There are some decent aspects, like the graphics and audio, but that’s about it. I’d strongly advise against spending money—there are many superior racing titles available. Assetto Corsa (early access, as it's still developing), factor, and factor 2 are worth trying, especially for live racing. Even raceroom racing feels better than shift 2. The latter is free to play.
Then there is always this guy^ Who says if it isn't EXACTLY like racing in the real world it's a shit game.
I’m not making it a direct comparison to real life, but I’m pointing out that NFS shift 2 falls short as a racing game. It suffers from numerous issues and represents a weak showcase of what some studios can achieve. For better examples, check their work before EA took over. Many controller devices suffer from noticeable input lag, which is well known in the racing simulation scene. Their physics engine also falls short for a title marketed as a racing simulation. When you compare it to other racing games and simulations out there, NFS shift 2 clearly underperforms. Also, if you looked at my profile before trying to be overly confident, you’d realize I’m not just a male gamer—technology and gaming interest come from many different backgrounds!
It was just a broad statement—there’s always someone who criticizes simulation games for missing realism. Being male or female doesn’t matter; it’s just a game, and it’s meant to be enjoyable. If every game were identical to real life, how exciting would it be?
OMG, I'm not making it up to real life; I'm just pointing out how much better other racing games are! This game is terrible because it's just a poor product, and Slightly Mad never managed to fix its issues with it. Even the developers admit Shift 2 has major flaws. It's meant to be a racing simulator like Assetto Corsa and my other racing simulations, not an arcade racing experience. The only non-simulation game I mentioned was Burnout, which is actually a much better title than Shift 2. Unless the price drops below £5 or something similar, it doesn't seem worth buying at all.
I share some of your thoughts. I enjoy racing games and simulators with real controls, and I've experienced input lag in NFS Shift 2. Since I'm used to genuine vehicle dynamics, this delay becomes quite bothersome. It also creates another issue: the camera shifts toward the corner when you approach, making it seem like the car is turning opposite to what you expect. This was really frustrating and hard to get used to because it forced me to adjust unnecessarily. Ideally, the camera should stay fixed ahead of you. Because of the lag, the game feels less smooth and more challenging than it should be. If you're seeking a better arcade racing experience, the GRID series—especially GRID 1 and Autosport—stands out as a much improved alternative.
It's comparing NSF Shift to racing games like Assetto Corsa and R3E, just as calling a Honda Civic a supercar would be similar.
