Using the MSRP as a reference, rounding up helps compare options. For every $30 extra, adding two more cores on a non-X model becomes more appealing. This suggests prioritizing performance gains over cost savings.

The Ryzen 7 7700 isn't officially available yet. If it were, the distinction would lie in core count rather than the x number. When comparing a hypothetical 7700 to the 7700x, the main change would be in base/boost speeds. *edit* Recent leaks support this idea, showing a roughly 100Mhz reduction versus the 7700x. The decision now hinges on choosing between a 6-core (7600x) or an 8-core (7700/7700x) processor, depending on your requirements. The benefits of the 6 and 8 core Zen4 parts remain limited at this time. One might argue that investing in a solid board and DDR5 now could allow you to acquire the most affordable Zen4 chip later for replacement.

Sigh, I've been struggling with this for weeks now. Zen4!

The AM5 CPUs haven't performed well yet, which means prices are likely to drop either way. I’d prefer to hold off on the non-X models. I purchased the 3600 over the 3600x version; it met all my expectations and was more affordable, as expected before considering your specific needs.

The X versions are a fraudulent scheme. Compare the 5600 with the 5600x—those labeled "X" are merely targeting early buyers.

Hehe, here I am... bought a 5600X while I waited for the 7000 3D-V cache Though, I picked it up on a promo and was quite the boost from my 2600

I'm only utilizing the 7700x up to the 7000 3D-V cache myself

It really comes down to the cost as well. If the 5600 isn’t discounted and the 5600x is only a dollar more, why not go for it? Often the 5600x will be even more affordable if you stay patient and check for opportunities. In the long run, you’ll save around twenty dollars here and there—it’s not a huge amount for one part, but saving one hundred when buying five parts makes a big difference. I enjoy hunting for deals, though it isn’t suitable for everyone. Sometimes you just prefer to act quickly.

Someone could argue the tiny gap between them doesn't justify even $10.
