It doesn’t make sense to ask for a recommendation right now because you’re already planning to buy something at Best Buy with a gigabit connection. You just need a device that supports that speed without issues.

I'm a big Linksys supporter because of the Velop AX4200, a Wi-Fi 6 router shaped like a white rectangular tower, and I really enjoy it.

What kind of internet connection are you employing? Would you prefer the new router to supersede the existing setup or would you rather 'extend' the current one, perhaps utilizing the old device as a modem (similar to a bridge modem)? Are you in need of functionalities such as bufferbloat compensation—like intelligent queue management, speed control, and routing algorithms?

It seems like you're saying the choice isn't really important based on what you hear.

Avoid the well-known options. Many lack a power switch.

They're top companies such as Asus, Gigabyte, Linksys, Netgear, and TP-Link produce excellent products. Choosing devices with Wi-Fi 6 will give you a strong network. 6E offers superior performance but comes at a higher cost.

I'm handling a big file move from one hard drive to another over the network, and 10/100 is really slow. It doesn’t seem to require internet—probably could work in place of the old setup. I don’t use the network much outside this transfer, so it’s mostly about reliability. Most parts today are pretty low quality, so anything that isn’t just outdated would be nice.

It would be better if the Wi-Fi is slow, so my neighbors wouldn’t use it.
