You have an ASRock B550M Pro 16GB, GSKILL Trident Z Ryzen 3 3100, and a 2070. Your question is about upgrading to a 2080 SUPER or any 300-series card—will the 3100 handle it? You might need to upgrade the CPU and possibly the motherboard.

Join the discussions! GPU compatibility isn't tied to the CPU. You can install an RTX 3090 in an older system with a PCIe port or fit a modern GPU into a newer machine and it should function properly.

3100 works for 2080, but some games need a 6-core CPU. I recommend going with 2600 or 3600 instead.

I've seen since I moved up from a 1070 that my GTA feels quite thin.

Consider upgrading to the MSI Gaming Z 2070 with an EVGA 2070 Black Edition Witch One. Switching to the 2080 Super would be a smart move.

You need an adapter since there were no compatible drivers for that OS version. For Windows 10, there were no drivers available for 3Dfx cards.

The Gaming Z comes with a factory overclock and varied IO options. If you favor that setup, stick with the Black Edition. For those needing a DVI port on the Black Edition, keep that choice. Regarding your query: it’s best to upgrade your CPU next after the GPU. A 5600X or higher performance chip will significantly impact gameplay, especially with high framerate demands. The R3 3100 offers solid performance but may not handle the latest titles as smoothly.

Sure, I don't use DVI. Let me know if you need anything else!
