I've recently felt the temptation to play some MW2 after years away, but I don't have the game on Steam, so I can't see what servers are active. I'm curious—are all servers compromised or is the game still functional?
The game is functional, though there are many hackers present. The player base remains relatively small overall. New players have started to join, as indicated by the chart data: http://steamcharts.com/app/10190
I haven't used it in a while, but back then the cheating was quite severe. Sometimes I had to spend up to an hour searching for a lobby where neither the host nor others were using cheats. Disappointing, since it's my top online shooter.
Works well for me. No hackers encountered so far, and games come up easily. Just to note, I only play TDM.
tdm remains functional, though the player base is small. Those who remain are all using it.
Previously, the game remained quite enjoyable. Occasionally you'd encounter players trying to hack, but it wasn't severe enough to cause me to quit.
I purchased the game, saved it, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it. So far, I've only seen one "hacked" version in FFA. Just a few snipers shooting people who get too near 30 kills because they're after the winning killcam. That's okay as long as I avoid aimbottlers and similar issues, then I'm all set.
