Growing up in the late '90s I really miss the older, more straightforward design of Windows 98. If Classic Theme hadn't been taken out of Windows 10, I'd have a much better feel for the original look. There are some hacks around, but nothing quite captures that authentic vintage vibe. Perhaps I should upgrade to a CRT monitor?
Preferably not, yet I clearly favor Windows 7 over Windows XP (since I've begun using XP more actively alongside 7 and 10).
I had to bring back some accounting software from an old Windows 98 system last week. I don’t miss it at all. Vista and 7 Aero themes were quite flashy, though. Those don’t work well.
XP and Aero on W7 remain impressive. I’m not sure who came up with the current "modern" design, but it doesn’t appeal to me. It feels overly basic... We have great hardware now, so we should use it to create something interesting, not just stick to old styles.
Sure, it's fine overall, though my top pick remains the stock Luna theme XP.
7 is my top choice, I really enjoy the appearance and animations it includes. It feels like a complete operating system. I wish there was an option to revert without using risky software.
My top choice was Windows 2000. It functions excellently even for current applications. I prefer the Luna theme with XP, though Classic was the most preferred (alongside Vista and 7). Overall, I’m most accustomed to Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 with the Desktop Experience.
