No one has tried the classic shell on Windows 8.1 before. What are your thoughts? Did it lead to problems or slow performance? How would you describe the startup experience?

I actually rely on it often. But since I have an M.2 SSD, I'm not sure.

You're planning to use a 2.5" SSD drive.

It's excellent. However, it's also worth noting that Windows 10 remains a free upgrade and offers superior performance.

Seems like a solid approach. I’m not keen on sticking to Win 10, and I’d rather resist their pressure until necessary. Also, the data concerns are a big deal for me. Since I need a new motherboard, I figured it’s wise to check opinions before committing to Win 7 or 8.1. I’ve got all three versions—Win 7, 8.1, and 10.

I run Startisback++ on Windows 10 and have not observed any performance issues.

I just wanted to let you know. I put it on my mom's new laptop, but there wasn't any change in performance. She has a 240gb SSD from Sandisk and it works much faster than her old laptop with DDR2 memory and some slow 2.5" drives that were almost empty. SHE REALLY LOVES IT!!! It really improved things for both of us!
