I’m curious about other strategy titles outside the well-known ones like Starcraft 2, League of Legends, and Warcraft.

I really enjoy Command and Conquer, especially the originals on the PS1. My top pick is C&C Red Alert Retaliation. Sadly, everything fell apart after Westwood Studios joined EA. I still turn on my PS1 emulator on my Ouya and play it occasionally. I own the original discs and my console, but without a modern cable adapter I can’t use it anymore.

^ That's the general opinion I hold of C&C as well. It went from campy but serious and intense, to ridiculous and trying to look like it was trying to look like it was campy. There's a fan-made installer for Red Alert which makes it run perfectly on modern machines without graphical issues.

My early years were spent in C&C Red Alert 2. It was incredible, even though I wasn't sure what I was doing.

Consider games like Total War or Age of Empires for a similar strategic experience.

Other games like Warcraft, C&C, Total Annihilation, and Age of Empires each offer unique experiences. I believe Dark Reign or Age of Empires 2 are the closest to classic C&C. You might want to try Dark Reign on GoG and check out Age of Empires 2 HD on Steam.

Consider Supreme Commander or Plannetary Annihilation. However, those fit the style of Total Annihilation.

Check out Star Wars Empire at War: it's currently on sale for 70% off. Also, Krush Kill 'n Destroy is a classic RTS game with a design similar to older C&C titles.

CnC isn't great, but I haven't played any of them in a while. I got frustrated with CnC 4, though. It seems I need to be available all the time just to play single-player.
