Are you sure you were a Windows guy? Windows 7 support is ended that is right. Why you have not just upgraded to Windows 10? With the same Windows 7 key. Darwin is not FreeBSD. macOS is not FreeBSD. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(operating_system) Yes. I have the most job done using OpenSuse. Since I do not need Adobe CC or other proprietary software to make my day, it just rocks. Check Louis Rossmann's youtube channel. Apple is not that good neither another brand is. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl2mFZo...Lax4Yisf6w Heh, are you doing your job or just stuck on Linux Appearance playing with themes? Do not assume this as sort of rude but what was the project you had to use Windows, now it is Linux and OS X? Check how KDE Plasma might be configured just like OS X https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/commen...the_moves/ The best Linux GUI installer has OpenSuse as it allows you to set up so uncommon config that neither Ubuntu, Debian, Mint, or Manjaro would not allow. In particular, set up UEFI partitioning, have 3 of 5 partitions encrypted. Not just the user folder lol. I hope I help a bit.

It doesn't seem overly difficult for users, especially since the setup process is straightforward. The complexity might come from Ubuntu/Mint's streamlined approach. Debian would likely have outdated dependencies by default, making it harder to get certain updates without manual effort, which could cause issues. People often rely on PPAs with Ubuntu/Mint, but requiring them on Debian might lead to conflicts. Still, mistakes are possible regardless of the distribution. Also, Debian's initial confusion during ISO download was confusing, though I eventually got the net installer.

Everything discussed here could also work with Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Ubuntu often runs software that is quite old, even the latest versions in testing are still outdated. Back then everything made sense, people built their systems around Ubuntu. As Linux evolves quickly, I've noticed many updates now depend on newer packages or dependencies that Ubuntu lacks, which can cause issues if those aren't present. In Ubuntu's case, they mostly focus on server and workstation environments rather than everyday consumer use. Distros based on Ubuntu unfortunately face these challenges more often. Things like Mint and PopOS are affected too. While I think PopOS helps by offering its own repositories for certain items, that's what others have reported. I appreciate Ubuntu for its server capabilities, but if you're using recent hardware or want the best performance, consider systems with a more frequent release cycle. Ultimately, it still comes down to personal preference.

It's definitely challenging getting the 5700XT running on Debian, even though I haven't tested it on Ubuntu/Mint. I wasn't sure about the current state of outdated dependencies, but there are many features that make Debian more user-friendly compared to other distros. For instance, a graphics PPA helps keep drivers fresh, which makes it simpler to connect newer hardware. On Debian, updating libc is necessary for Mesa dependencies, but I suspect the PPA would handle this automatically. That's why I moved to Arch—partly to test it out and learn, partly because I noticed the dependencies are regularly maintained.
