Yes, I've updated my bios.
My pc is up and ready but been hearing a lot of conflicting information on whether I should update mobo bios or not. The mobo in question is the B660 gaming x ax ddr4 and its bios version is F1 which was in 2021. Someone on reddit said that the b660 mobos should work with the 12th gen cpus out the box but i'm unsure. Was thinking about updating it to F22 since its the latest one from gigabyte as of 2023. FYI: I now understand that I must format my usb to fat32 before installing os and updating bios.
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B66...upport-cpu As far as I can see 12th and 13th gen works since F21. But if that is a new machine, it shouldn't hurt to go to the latest BIOS before doing anything else
They are. The usual guideline is to avoid changing your BIOS unless you meet one of these conditions: A significant security vulnerability exists in the present BIOS version (such as Spectre or Meltdown); there’s a problem with your system tied to the BIOS (like XMP not working or failing to restart correctly, excessive voltage causing CPU failure, etc.). You need a specific capability in the updated BIOS (for example, resizable BAR on older boards). Your current version doesn’t accommodate the newer CPU you intend to install. If you don’t match any of these categories, updating the BIOS carries unnecessary risk.
Check if F1 contains any known security issues in its current BIOS version.
Test BIOS settings to confirm everything functions properly.
The last BIOS update was in 2021—maybe it’s safe for your i7-12th Gen CPU.
Your BIOS should work well with the i7-12th Gen CPU as suggested.
The BIOS update page details whether the release tackles known security concerns. If your system operates normally and no unusual OS behavior is observed, and there’s no reference to a fix on the download site, it’s likely safe. The information provided indicates clarity from the manufacturer regarding the specific improvements.
Keep your devices' hardware and software current. The constant warnings about BIOS updates seem excessive.
