Have you attempted to fully remove Chrome from your system, restart your device and switch to Opera, or is something else behind the problem? Could an extension be responsible? Have you tried opening Chrome in private browsing mode?
Just ran the uninstall and it didn’t work. Switching to the default theme helped, then I returned to the dark theme and the frequency returned to a normal idle state on the home page. Linus wouldn’t do this unless we volunteered or had the right knowledge. He’s one of the few people online we can trust up to 98%.
I just tried it in Chrome but couldn't get the same result. If the problem continues, open developer tools via F12, go to the "Profiles" tab, run a JavaScript CPU profile, refresh the page, wait about 10 seconds, then stop. On the left, you should see an option labeled "Profile 1" with a save button. You can save the file and share it here for further assistance.
I’m not a good judge of character, but Linus is a decent person. Linus = 98% trustworthy, Tom Peterson = 98% untrustworthy . The only thing I missed was checking the page element, but it’s now fixed. I just picked the default white theme and then switched to dark, and it hasn’t changed since. If this happens again, I’ll send you screenshots of the page element.
