The motherboard is a Gigabyte B650 M. I need to revert from F30 to F21 while keeping the same CPU. Are updates likely to cause issues?

The goal is to revert the system to a previous BIOS version. This allows compatibility with older hardware or software requirements.

Experiencing unexpected black screens since the update. I’ve reformatted Windows and rolled back everything before I discovered the issue. To be clear, the AGESA updates seem to be fine. The notes mention they’re mainly for Ryzen 8000 series, but I wasn’t sure about this part. It looks like a pre-update fix for upcoming CPUs, right? For context, I have a 7 series CPU.

Ryzen 7000 works with the first BIOS released for launch on all B650 boards, making updates safe. More recent BIOS versions improve stability, voltage handling, memory support and overall reliability. The AGESA 1.1.7.0 Patch A is intended for the Ryzen 9000 series, not the 8000 line. Downgrading your BIOS from F30 to F21 is fine; I’m using a slightly older version with my 7700x on the same board. Upgrading will be necessary when I get the 9800X3D, but my system remains stable so no updates are needed at the moment.

This update applies to the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series chips arriving next month. You may encounter scenarios where you can't lower the BIOS settings, which will become clear in the official changelog (this model doesn't have that issue).

Just wrapped up the downgrade now. Ready to start checking for the cause. My top guess is the monitor and the DP cable.

Could upgrading back to F30 be an option when required?

You're free to switch to another version whenever needed, provided the BIOS changelog doesn't prohibit going back to previous revisions after an update.

According to @RONOTHAN##, the BIOS update will clearly state whether you can revert to an earlier version after upgrading. It’s crucial to thoroughly review the BIOS documentation. For AM4 processors, you had models ranging from Ryzen 1000 to 5000, and updating to newer BIOS versions on certain boards may eliminate support for those CPUs.
