He offered me his old motherboard and CPU—ASUS PRIME Z370-A and Intel Core i7-8700K—for just fifty dollars. I’m thinking about whether it’s worth swapping my Ryzen 5 3600 and MSI B450M-A PRO MAX for that deal, especially since I don’t intend to upgrade the CPU soon. On one side, I’d gain two M.2 slots, which sounds nice. On the other, I’m unsure which CPU would be better for modern games at 1440p and would need a cooler later, costing another 30-40 dollars. My current setup includes a Sapphire RX 6700 XT with 16GB of 3000MHz RAM.
It's easy to compare CPUs on YT. The short result shows 8700K is slightly higher than 3600, but not a big difference. It doesn't seem worth it. Consider a 5600 for $130 or go with a 5800x3d if you're unsure.
Obtain the CPU and board. Proceed to sell the combination, including your CPU, and purchase a 5700X.
