Hi, your friend has bought a Ryzen 5 5500 and an ASRock B550M Pro4 motherboard yesterday. The BIOS (version P2.30) that supports the CPU was released on March 8, 2022, and the CPU itself came out on April 4, 2022. Would the motherboard already have that BIOS or would he need to update it? Also, does the 5500 support Smart Access Memory? Since some 3000-series GPUs lack this feature and the 5500 is a more compact version of a G-series chip, it should work fine.

The BIOS settings are tied to the exact production date of your board. If your purchased motherboard was released after the BIOS release, it should work, though you can only confirm this once you have the hardware in front of you.

The delay between the factory and the shop shelf can vary depending on the BIOS version used. It's unclear what ASRock does, but I haven't updated boards from my warehouse unless there was a significant problem, which only occurred once every three years.
