Considering your setup, the i7-14700KF seems like a solid upgrade from Intel to AMD. The free GPU you received is a nice bonus. Your current gaming experience on the G9 5120x1440 shows you need more performance, especially with your older CPU running at a low temperature. Switching to Intel could bring noticeable improvements.
The credibility of this source is uncertain, but the 2-minute clip provides some benchmarks, and many improvements appear significant (around 50% in Starfield!)
I wouldn't suggest setting up a Raptor Lake setup. Arrow Lake is nearly ready, and I don't believe the cost savings justify the new capabilities. On a 5950X? That processor won't even limit the 3090ti unless you're running Minecraft at full resolution. It's a solid CPU, but upgrading only makes sense for high-end builds, not just an i9. The jump from 5950X to 14700KF also means a drop in multi-threaded performance.
Are you designing your PC for high frame rates? If yes, share the current stats, games you play, and settings you use. Otherwise, this might not be the right question. You're wondering if it's worth investing more for better performance. Only you know your answer.
I was working on renders in Blender and started with a 5800x3d setup. It actually performed better on games than my 5950x model, which struggled and overheated under constant full load. The higher-end GPU helped a lot, but the 5800x3d still needed more power. The price difference between the 7950x3d and the i7 14700kf was around $240, which is a big deal. I already had the Intel i7 model, and the 5800x3d on games like Helldivers and Warhammer 40k SM2 ran smoothly at about 140 FPS. Raytracing wasn’t used much, so it didn’t affect performance. Now with the 5950x, I’ve been averaging 35-50 FPS in Helldivers and Warhammer 40k SM2, which is frustrating since I have a top-tier GPU.
Are the i7 14700kf really that much inferior compared to the 7800X3D? It's hard to say if AMD is simply better overall or if opinions still favor Intel despite fixes they've applied. I'm not concerned about minor frame differences in games, only about overall performance when handling multiple tasks or rendering more than one monitor. Updated October 23, 2024 by OdysseyMayn
