I'm checking this motherboard: ASUS H110M-R (the only one left on the list). I plan to swap my G4560 into an ITX build for a budget PC, using the board with a quad-core processor. I understand the H110 chipset supports both 6th and 7th generation, but I'm unsure if a BIOS update is necessary. It seems ASUS has started removing details about older boards. What's up?

Check the discussion for a solution (it's not perfect). Look at the thread here: https://warp9-systems.proboards.com/thre...inks-board. You can find the info you need there.

They may get rid of their products pages, but it should still be listed in support, i.e. BIOS updates should be there. It's a good idea to always update the BIOS. There's just an inherent danger in doing so on a board without flashback. As long as you're safe and take proper precautions (redundant power, in case of an outage, for example) you'll be fine.

Those with older boards ought to download the bios and store them safely. It's hard to predict exactly when everything will disappear.

The main concern is whether it will boot with a 7-core CPU (out of the box). I only have one 6-core CPU available, which is already removed, so I don’t want to risk pulling it out if needed. The board I have doesn’t support a BIOS flashback feature.

The chipset is compatible with 7th generation CPUs, though a BIOS upgrade is necessary. Updated BIOS versions released after September 2016 will be sufficient, but the most recent release is recommended. https://www.asus.com/us/supportonly/H110...Desk_BIOS/

The Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A comes with 7, but it's currently pricier, so I'm looking for a 6 model CPU to replace the BIOS.

Ensure you have the necessary components ready. Avoid adding any unsupported features that could damage the system. If the device fails to start, upgrade to the latest BIOS version.

Only the latest version is compatible with the 7th generation after an upcoming software release.

I purchased 20 of these boards more than a year ago and they all functioned well with the 7. Originally priced around $23, they are now reselling for nearly $100 on the second-hand market, listed in new condition. I’m considering selling them for $100 if I can find a cheaper option that still meets my needs.
