Hello everyone, I'm trying to figure out what to do next. I purchased a Nitro+ RX 590 from a friend and want to install it in my system as a replacement for the RX 560D I've used for five years. I have some concerns about the power needs.

The card supports up to 225W, but it uses one 8-pin connector and one 6-pin connector. My current power supply only has a single cable with an 8-pin on one end and two split 6+2 pin connectors on the other. It seems like the cables are connected in a way that might not meet the required power output. The PSU I have is a DeepCool DQ650M-V2L, and the label says not to use third-party cables. However, this setup could only deliver up to 150W, which is far less than the 225W needed from both the 8-pin and 6-pin sides.

I’m unsure if it’s safe to use just one 8-pin connector with two 6-pin connectors. I understand it might be difficult to find separate cables in my country, but I’ve looked everywhere. Would it be okay to buy a separate 6-pin cable? Or should I go for the single cable and see how it performs?

The power supply is built to accommodate two 8-pin connectors via a single cable. This configuration matches the manufacturer's intention. The daisy chain method is typical for budget power supplies. Although not ideal, using the correct wire gauge should resolve any issues.

Safe enough.
The issue arises with both 8-pin ends, as they could draw 300w.
In such cases, the single cable may not be adequate.

I believe the cable is designed for 300W, but the individual connectors aren't. Buy separate cables for safety.

I wouldn't rely on PSU cables beyond those included with the PSU initially.

The PSU looks decent, and given the 6+2 rating from the manufacturer, I'd be surprised if it wasn't rated for 300W. You might want to reach out to Deepcool to check if they can help you find an alternative cable if you're concerned.

it should be rated for more than 300 watts, ignoring transient power spikes, gpus don't reach maximum power plugs, a 225-watt gpu would draw around 40-50 watts from the mainboard, leaving approximately 180 watts from pcie power plugs

Thank you for your explanation, I wasn't aware it was possible for a single 8pin end connected from the PSU to draw 300W towards the other ends. Or did I miss something?
Thank you for your support! Unfortunately, I can't verify the cable's rating because it lacks markings and only has "PCIE" on one end. I'd prefer to buy separate cables, but the manufacturer's label warns against mixing or using third-party products. After all, this is the only PC I own, and the warranty/return process in my country is very strict. 💀
Thank you for your insight, I also sent an email to DeepCool support asking about the cable and why the PSU only comes with one type like that. It seems quite odd to ship a PSU with such limited options when 650W is more than sufficient for even more powerful cards.

Thank you for the clarification. I realized the mainboard can also supply power to the GPU through its own connectors. I thought that if a GPU has its own power connectors, the mainboard's PCIE slot would be disregarded for power consumption, and the connectors would receive full priority.

I was thinking about the typical power draw the device would have regularly, not just during spikes. Although the motherboard can handle up to 75W, it's uncertain how much each card actually uses, so you should ensure your PSU cables can support the full total.
