Hello, im trying to find a answer to the question above. I built a system 5 years ago with a Z390 Gaming X motherboard and a i9 9900K. Ran the system fine no issues at all for 5ish years. Now recently i moved and took the PC components with me, changed only cooling and case. PC ran fine for 2 days but i noticed straight away it was back to its old F4 2018 driver. This driver does NOT support i9 this board had no out of the box i9 support. Only i3,i5 and i7. Surprisingly the computer ran fine on this BIOS for 2 days, i even did some benchmarks and everything was as it should be… CPU was also running at the 4.9-5Ghz OC setting i had set 5 years ago but i dont understand how since i set it from the BIOS auto upgrade setting and on this version on the auto upgrade there was no option for any i9 core. i did not update the BIOS right away because i had no internet wifi adapter and no laptop at hand so was running on no network. Played some games (nothing heavy) and then a random shutdown. These shutdowns came more frequent and random. Thats when i thought okay i NEED to update BIOS. Used a work PC to get it on a drive and went to update… out of all the times i had to shutdown in the middle of the update… this mobo does have dual bios and qflash but no manual switches for it. I rebooted and got into the BIOS again… i ran a fast update this time. Rebooted and comfirmed it was the newest F10 2023 version. 2-3 minutes later it shut down and has never booted again. CPU light is on, no display, no beeps and runs for maybe 10-15 seconds… now the question is. Did i kill the motherboard? Or did the motherboard kill the CPU? Which is more likely? because i can get a supported lga 1152 board their not cheap, the older or same one i have cant be found anywhere and low end ones dont support i9 at all so i could buy one just to test it… because if it is the core… i would rather move on to 13 gen than spend days looking for a 9gen, there is none available around me.. asking because i dont want to spend 200-350 $ on a motherboard just to find out that my core is busted.. if your interested in the full lore you can find it here… as of now im stuck with this

You're experiencing a situation where only the first BIOS is active while the second remains unchanged, and when the main BIOS fails, the board reverts to the older version. It seems this has occurred before. Recently, you switched to a newer BIOS on one of the two, but encountered problems. Gigabyte offers an option to flash the backup (spare) BIOS, but you must perform this action within Windows. Ensure your CMOS battery is still functioning well; consider replacing it if necessary.

Unfortunately, I can't reach the BIOS anymore because the board won’t boot. If I manage to get a new one, it should support an i9 processor at a reasonable price. The concern is whether the issue might be with the core itself, which could be uncommon.

You should verify the CPU performance on another motherboard and/or a different CPU model in that system (any compatible CPU works, including a Celeron).
