In short, I completed my PC setup using the old HDD with Windows 7 and a new SSD. It unexpectedly booted from the HDD, and I didn’t expect that. I’m still trying to get Windows files onto the SSD safely. I understand there might be issues, but can I move the Windows data from the HDD to the SSD? Thanks.

You can duplicate your entire hard drive to an SSD using third-party tools. I utilized Acronis True Image for this purpose. It’s available for free with a WD drive, though other programs exist if you don’t have a WD or your drives aren’t WD. http://support.wdc.com/product/downloadd...p?swid=119

I understand your situation. You have a large HDD with most of the space filled, and you're only interested in copying the Windows files to an SSD. Are there tools that can help you select specific files for cloning?

To relocate windows to your SSD, the simplest approach is to reinstall it on the SSD and disable it from the HDD. For an OEM version without a disk, you can obtain the ISO file from Windows and transfer desired files from your HDD to the SSD. The alternative, if you have windows on a separate partition on the HDD (uncommon), would involve cloning that partition to the SSD.

Your Samsung 840 EVO works well with the migration tools, allowing windows and applications to move to an SSD while preserving your games, videos, and photos on the HDD. If you're using a WD drive, you can download Acronis True Disk Cloning software for free at the provided link.
